Juvenile Diversion Program

The Wethersfield Juvenile Review Board (JRB) was established in 1996. The purpose of the JRB is to provide a community based mechanism for diverting appropriate juvenile cases (must be under the age of 18) from the Juvenile Court System. Cases are referred both from the Wethersfield Police Department as well as from New Britain Juvenile Court (with parental permission). The Wethersfield JRB is comprised of members representing Wethersfield Social and Youth Services, Wethersfield Police Department, Wethersfield Public Schools, New Britain Juvenile Court, CT Department of Children and Families and Faith Based Communities.

The Board meets twice a month individually with JRB clients and their parent(s) to create diversion plans. Potential action items in a diversion plan might include community service, counseling (individual and family), drug and alcohol prevention classes, letter of apology, etc. After successful completion of the action items outlined in the diversion plan the JRB can successfully close the case. For information please call (860) 721-2880.
